Issued at: 10:02 PM EDT on October 31, 2014, expires at: 1:00 AM EST on November 02, 2014
  • ...Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 am EST Sunday...
  • event...snowfall accumulations between 6 t0 12 inches are expected for most locations above 2500 feet. Locally higher amounts up to 18 inches or more will be possible across the highest peaks above 5000 feet. Elevations below 2500 feet should receive between 2 and 4 inches.
  • Timing...rain will continue to mix with and change to snow over the higher elevations...with the snow level lowering down into valley locations late tonight. Snow showers will likely continue through Saturday across higher elevations...before diminishing Saturday evening.
  • Impacts...travel is expected to become hazardous on roads across the higher terrain of southwest Virginia and east Tennessee. Downed trees will be possible due to the snow accumulating on foliage still left on many trees. Travel is discouraged. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. In addition... snowfall intensities will be heavy enough to substantially reduce visibilities at times. Travel is discouraged. If travel is unavoidable...keep an extra flashlight...food...and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
