Race week will start off with some great weather for March! We are tracking an area of high pressure in the region which means a clear to partly cloudy sky, and lots of sunshine through Tuesday! Temperatures will be warming up as a southerly flow remains in place. Highs Tuesday will climb into the upper 60s to lower 70s. Gusty winds will combine with low relative humidity to provide a higher than normal fire danger through Tuesday afternoon.
StormTrack 5 meteorologists are tracking a strong storm system set to develop over the Plains states Tuesday. This system will head east across the Mississippi River Valley and the Ohio Valley. Clouds will increase late Tuesday and Tuesday night. Rain showers will likely develop in our area Tuesday night, mainly after midnight.
Wet weather will remain on the agenda for Wednesday morning and afternoon. Colder air will pour into the region behind the front Wednesday (temperatures will be falling through the afternoon). It will be very windy Wednesday and Wednesday night, especially in the mountains.
Rain will likely change to snow showers or flurries Wednesday evening or night. Flurries will end early Thursday. A light snowfall accumulation is possible, mainly across the higher elevations.
It will be much cooler behind the front on Thursday but should warm back up to near normal levels by the weekend. Partly to mostly sunny skies are expected Thursday and Friday.
Race weekend weather is looking good for Friday. We are tracking a weather system that may bring some showers to the region starting Friday night through Sunday. The timing and strength of this weather system is still likely to change with the differing weather models. We will be tracking race week weather and have a better feel for the green flag forecast later this week.
Highs will be in the mid 60s to lower 70s on Tuesday. We will be near 60 Wednesday and near 40 Thursday for a high, and upper 40s to upper 50s Friday through next Monday. Lows will be in the upper 30s Monday night, upper 40s Tuesday night, in the 20s Wednesday night, and upper teens to lower 20s Thursday night, and 30s Friday and Saturday nights.
