David grew up in east Tennessee and has always had a love for weather.

David went to the University of Tennessee before transferring to the University of Oklahoma where he got his meteorology degree. While in school, David interned with WATE-TV in Knoxville and, later, with KSBI-TV in Oklahoma City.

He also worked part-time for WCYB in 2006 before joining BBB Cable TV12 in Oak Ridge, TN for a year.

He joined the WCYB staff in May 2007.

David ranked in the top 6% of forecasters in a national contest and won a local forecasting contest while at the University of Oklahoma.

David obtained his AMS Television Seal of Approval in April of 2009.

David, his wife Jennifer, son, and daughter, love getting out and seeing East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. They also enjoy serving the community through their local church.

Rebecca moved to the Tri-Cities in 2005 after living in Columbia, South Carolina for 5 years and working for WIS-TV.

Olivia Bailey

Olivia Bailey is a news anchor and reporter for News 5 WCYB. She is a native of Chilhowie, Va., and graduate of Emory & Henry College.

Dave Dierks

The Tri-Cities has been home for Dave for more than 25 years. For more than two decades, he has been honing his skills on what he deems "a very challenging" part of the country to forecast the weather.

Chris Michaels

Chris Michaels is the weekend evening meteorologist at News 5 WCYB. Chris comes to us from North Carolina State University, where he got his degree in Meteorology.

Casey joined the News 5 team as Weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter in August, 2010.

Cassandra Sweetman

Cassandra Sweetman is a multi-media journalist covering the Tri-Cities area for News 5 WCYB. She is dedicated to delivering fact-based stories and a firsthand account to the people of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.

Tiana Bohner

Tiana comes to the Tri-Cities from Boston where she studied Broadcast Journalism at Boston University. While in college, Tiana interned at CNN in Atlanta as well as local stations in Boston and Honolulu.

Kristi O'Connor

Kristi O’Connor is an anchor and reporter for News 5 WCYB. While in school, she reported, produced and anchored for the school TV station and served as editor-in-chief of the campus newspaper.

Maggie Smolka

Maggie Smolka graduated Magna Cum Laude from Emerson College in Boston with her B.S. in Journalism, and then joined the WCYB news team in the Tri-Cities in July, 2015.

Heather Williams

Heather Williams joined News 5 WCYB in August of 2015 as the weekend sports anchor and a multimedia journalist. She has worked for stations in Chattanooga and Nashville.

Ricky Matthews

Ricky Matthews is the weekend morning meteorologist at News 5 WCYB. Ricky is also an avid pilot, having learned from his grandfather.

Jessica Griffith

Jessica Griffith joined the News 5 WCYB team in November 2015 as a news producer/multimedia journalist.

Karthik Venkataraman

Karthik Venkataraman is a Bristol, TN native. After graduating from Tennessee High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science degree at East Tennessee State University.

Courtney Lester

Courtney Lester joined the News 5 team in May 2016 as a multimedia journalist.
