BRISTOL, Va. -

The Virginia State Golf Association Four-Ball Championship is being played at the Virginian Golf Club.

A four-ball match is a two-on-two competition. Each golfer plays his own ball on each hole and the best of the two scores is recorded.

Friday's first round drew some low scoring. The Roanoke-based team of Brandon LaCroix and Matt Chandler shot a 61, giving them a three-stroke lead heading into Saturday's final 18 holes.

Several Southwest Virginia-based teams are competing, but none are threatening the leaders after the first round.
