Snyder: Redskins will never change name
Nickname hit by recent wave of criticism
Snyder reconfirmed his feelings in an interview this week with USA Today.
"We will never change the name of the team," Snyder told the newspaper. "As a lifelong Redskins fan, and I think that the Redskins fans understand the great tradition and what it's all about and what it means, so we feel pretty fortunate to be just working on next season."
The nickname has received a recent wave of criticism. There are calls for the Redskins to change the moniker because it's considered by some to be offensive to Native Americans.
There's also a lawsuit aimed at denying federal trademark protection to the team.
"We'll never change the name," Snyder reiterated. "It's that simple. NEVER -- you can use caps."
Nearly 80 percent of approximately 1,000 people polled in a recent survey support the Redskins keeping the name.
