BRISTOL, Tenn. -

Tony Stewart will not compete in the Irwin Tools Night Race, his team announced Wednesday.

Stewart is sitting out a third straight race since the Aug. 9 incident at a dirt track in Upstate New York that killed Kevin Ward. Jr. The incident remains under investigation.

Race fans at Bristol Motor Speedway are reacting to Stewart's decision to miss the Bristol race.

"He has to deal with what happened,  just from an emotional standpoint," race fan Greg Strope told News 5 WCYB.

"I mean he's a race car driver, he's got a lot of people relying on him as a business and as an industry."

Jeff Burton will once again replace him in the No. 14 Chevrolet. Burton also drove Stewart's car at Michigan last week.

Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero has said investigators don't have any evidence at this point to support criminal intent by Stewart.
