The Honaker baseball team captured the Region 1A West championship Saturday, beating Auburn 5-0. The Tigers advance to Friday's state semifinals in Radford.
The victory keeps their undefeated season intact at 24-0.
Tom Harding's club got another superb performance from its starting pitcher. A night after beating Galax 1-0 on a one-hitter, Saturday's starter Hunter Meade allowed just three hits in a complete game win.
"It feels great to be undefeated," Harding told News 5 WCYB.
"With shutouts too, so you know it's been pretty good."
The Tigers are now two wins away from giving their longtime coach another state championship. They previously won the state title in 2011.
"We came out with our minds focused to win these two games and get back to Radford," Honaker senior MacKenzie Phillips told News 5 WCYB.
