News 5 WCYB spoke with Bristol Motor Speedway General Manager Jerry Caldwell Friday about the possibility of inviting Richard Petty and Danica Patrick to race each other at BMS.

"We'll certainly invite them," Caldwell told News 5 WCYB Friday night.

"We'll be happy to make the track available if they want to give it a run on the high banks. We'll see how the king continues to react. I know he said he'll get in one of Tony Stewart's cars. Danica has held her own at our place. It would certainly be a great show."

Earlier Friday, the 76-year-old Petty said he would accept the challenge of racing Patrick, according to media reports.

Petty is NASCAR's all-time wins (200) leader.

The feud between the retired driver and current Sprint Cup Series competitor started earlier this month when Petty was asked by a reporter if Patrick could win on the circuit, while speaking at the Canadian Motorsports Expo on Sunday.

"If everybody else stayed home," Petty said. "If she'd have been a male, nobody would ever know if she'd showed up at a race track."
