Tennessee believes an NCAA tournament bid remains well within reach as it prepares to play the rest of the season without injured forward Jeronne Maymon.
Maymon, a second-team all-Southeastern Conference selection last year, hasn't played all season because of an injured left knee. Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin announced Sunday that the 6-foot-7 senior would be redshirted.
Senior forward Kenny Hall said Tennessee remains "a Top 25-caliber team" without Maymon. The Volunteers (8-4) host Mississippi on Wednesday in their Southeastern Conference opener.
Maymon said Monday it has been "miserable" not to play, but he also was relieved to have this decision out of the way.
Although Maymon won't play this season, Martin said the senior forward should be healthy enough to participate in team practices by the end of the month.
Vols believe they can overcome Maymon's absence
