Virginia Tech tightening security for spring game
Virginia Tech is tightening security for a busy weekend on campus.
Admission is free to Saturday's spring football game, which could draw as many as 40,000 fans to Lane Stadium. There are also several other events scheduled at Virginia Tech.
Tom Gabbard, Virginia Tech's associate athletic director for internal affairs, says events like the bombing at the Boston marathon serve as a reminder to remain vigilant about security and "get back on our game."
The game comes four days after the school marked the six-year anniversary of a shooting on campus that left 33 dead.
Gabbard says police from surrounding communities, the state police and sheriff's departments will help with security this weekend.
Fans also will have their bags checked as they enter Lane Stadium.
