Nationals 2, Diamondbacks 0: Dan Haren tossed seven solid innings and Chad Tracy belted a solo homer as visiting Washington defeated Arizona for the second straight day.
Denard Span opened the sixth inning with his league-leading 11th triple before coming around to score on Ryan Zimmerman's groundout. Tracy capped his two-hit performance with his fourth homer in the seventh for the Nationals, who secured a series victory for retiring manager Davey Johnson.
Paul Goldschmidt extended his hitting streak to a career-best 18 games with a two-out single to right field in the first inning. The Diamondbacks mustered just four more hits en route to their fourth consecutive loss.
Haren (10-14) bested his former team and improved to 5-8 on the road after scattering four hits and striking out five. Drew Storen retired the side in order in the eighth inning before Rafael Soriano stranded a pair of runners in scoring position in the ninth to notch his 43rd save.
With Washington nursing a 1-0 lead in the seventh inning, Tracy deposited a 2-2 sinker from Brandon McCarthy (5-11) into the pool area in right-center field. All four of Tracy's homers have been hit on the road.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Goldschmidt, who went 1-for-4, is 28-for-72 during his hitting streak. ... McCarthy suffered the hard-luck loss after permitting two runs on five hits in seven innings. ... Haren won a career-best 16 games during his 2008 campaign with the Diamondbacks and matched that mark in 2011 while pitching for the Los Angeles Angels.
