Cousins: RG3 will have say in hiring coach
Washington Redskins backup quarterback Kirk Cousins said starter Robert Griffin III and owner Dan Snyder will have a say in who is hired as the new head coach.
The Redskins fired coach Mike Shanahan on Monday.
"I'm sure Mr. Snyder and Robert and those people will have a lot of input as to who the hire is," Cousins told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
It is not surprising that Snyder will have significant input into who is hired as the next head coach, but Griffin's involvement shows how much power he has as a player within the organization. In December, reports surfaced that Shanahan nearly quit at the end of the 2012 season because of Griffin's relationship with Snyder.
The Redskins may not be the only team in which the franchise quarterback has input in hiring coaches. The Detroit Lions reportedly had new offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell meet with quarterback Matthew Stafford during his job interview earlier this week.
