Alabama now has the highest-paid head coach in college football and the highest paid defensive coordinator, ESPN.com's TideNation reported Tuesday.

The university's Board of Trustees approved a contract that will pay head coach Nick Saban $5.62 million per year and approved a contract for defensive coordinator Kirby Smart that will pay him $1.28 million annually, according to the report.

The Tide has won national championships in three of the past four seasons under Saban. The only change made to the contract he signed in March 2012 was an added bonus for the new BCS playoff format. He will make $200,000 if Alabama reaches the semifinal game, $300,000 if it reaches the championship game and $400,000 if it wins the title.

Saban's contract runs through Jan. 31, 2020.

His annual income is slightly more than Texas' Mack Brown, who is second-highest-paid head coach.

Smart, 37, received a $200,000 raise to make him the highest paid defensive coordinator in the college football, putting him ahead of LSU's John Chavis, who will average $1.2 million over the next two years. Smart will make $1.35 million in 2014 and 2015.

Raises were also approved for offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier ($680,000 from $590,000), defensive line coach Chris Rumph ($360,000 from $310,000), linebackers coach Lance Thompson ($400,000 from $375,000), tight ends/special teams coach Bobby Williams ($400,000 from $350,000) and running backs coach Burton Burns ($315,000 from $290,000).

The Board also approved two-year contracts of three new assistants. Offensive line coach Mario Cristobal will make $475,000, and wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator Billy Napier and defensive backs coach Greg Brown will make $300,300 each. Strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran is set to make $350,000, which represents a $25,000 raise.

New director of player personnel Kevin Steele received a two-year contract for $200,000 per year.
