MIAMI -

Something about Thursday nights brings out the best in Virginia Tech and Miami.

Both could use a little boost right about now.

The Hokies' streak of eight straight 10-win seasons is in serious jeopardy, and could only be extended if they prevail in their last four regular-season games, then the Atlantic Coast Conference title matchup and the Orange Bowl. And the Hurricanes have lost three straight games by a combined score of 92-37, losing the momentum from their hot start.

Still, the ACC title game is within reach of both the Hokies (4-4, 2-2 ACC) and Hurricanes (4-4, 3-2). One of them could take a big step forward on Thursday night in Miami.

All-time, Miami is 15-3 on Thursday nights. Virginia Tech is 19-5 in those prime-time games.
