Firefighters Stress Importance of Sprinkler Systems

Kingsport firefighters say two recent apartment fires are good examples of why sprinkler systems are so important. Last Saturday, a home that had been converted in to three apartments was destroyed. On the same day, an apartment inside a complex also caught on fire but it didn't spread because one of the proper safeguards was in place.

"By the time our firefighters arrived the fire was already out because the sprinkler system did its job," said Barry Brickey with the Kingsport Fire Department.

Firefighters say only a few apartment complexes in Kingsport have sprinkler systems in place.
