Two Virginia Utility Companies Propose Rate Increases

The State Corporation Commission is in Southwest Virginia today to hear what electric customers have to say about two proposed rate increases.

The first meeting is at 10:00 this morning in Norton at the City Council Chambers. Kentucky utilities is proposing a 30% increase. They are known in Virginia under Old Dominion Power Company and serve 30,000 customers in Wise, Lee Russell, Scott and Dickenson Counties.

The second is tonight at 6:00 in Abingdon at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. Appalachian Power is proposing a 17% increase to its customers.
