A new federal report shows a dramatic increase in improper Medicare payments over the last year.
More than $47 billion of taxpayer money was paid to the questionable claims, and at a rate nearly three times that of the previous year.
Some of the suspected Medicare claims include treatments showing little relation to the condition of the patient, prescriptions written by deceased doctors, and unnecessary supplies.
It's not clear whether moves toward stricter documentation requirements have exposed more questionable claims.
