TN Historical Commission Says Memorial Stadium Should Be Considered An Historical Building

The Tennessee Historical Commission says Johnson City's Memorial Stadium should be considered an historical building.  The commission is expected to grant the stadium historical status and add it to the state historical register in January.  Tt will then be recommended for consideration for the National Historic Register.  Memorial Stadium is slated to be torn down in the coming weeks to make way for a parks and recreation multi-use center.  But a group of citizens is still trying to save it.  The Historical Commission says being on the register only keeps a building from being torn down if federal money is to be used on the project which is not the case for Memorial Stadium.
