Christmas Cards for Troops

rpepin@foxtricities.com

The American Red Cross is starting to collect Christmas cards to send to troops around the country and overseas.
The Holiday Mail for Heroes program kicked off this week.

"Groups can collect cards, kids can make cards if they want to at school or at church clubs, Brownies, Boy Scouts...whatever.  Bring them to [your local chapter] and then we will send them to a national Red Cross address," said Patty Tauscher with the Mountain Empire American Red Cross.

Card Guidelines:
Every card received will be screened for hazardous materials and reviewed by Red Cross volunteers. By observing the following guidelines we can ensure a quick process:

  • Please ensure that all cards are signed.
  • Please send cards as opposed to long letters which delay a quick review process.
  • Please do not include E-mail or home addresses on the cards.
  • Please do not include inserts of any kind, including photos, as these items will be removed during the reviewing process.
  • Participants should limit the number of cards they submit to 25 from any one person or 50 from any one class or group. If you are mailing a large quantity, please bundle the cards and place them in large mailing
envelopes. Each card does not need its own envelope as envelopes will be removed from all cards
    before distribution.

Deadline to dropp off cards at your local American Red Cross:  December 4th.

For more information, conatct Patty Tauscher at the Red Cross Mountain Empire Chapter at (276) 645-6650 or 1-866-645-6650 or pattyredcross@bvunet.net.
