A local historic site now in the mix for becoming the new location of the headquarters for a U.S. National Park Service's historic trail.
Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area in Elizabethton is one of several areas being considered. Currently, headquarters for the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail is in Blacksburg, South Carolina.
The trail marks the route taken by settlers from Virginia through Tennessee and North Carolina to fight the Battle of Kings Mountain.
Sycamore Shoals was the principle gathering place for the Overmountain men.
