Former Johnson City Housing Official Sentenced
|
A former Johnson City housing official has been sentenced on theft and forgery convictions.
Judge Robert Cupp sent Danny Davis to jail for one year on a 10-year sentence handed down Wednesday after he was found guilty in September.
Davis headed a city program that used federal money to rehabilitate the homes of lower income residents.
He was accused of setting up his own business and underbidding legitimate contractors.
Judge Cupp said he wanted to send Davis to prison for a decade, but knew he would be reversed on appeal.
Cupp said in sentencing Davis that he doubted Davis could be rehabilitated because he continued to blame the city for the charges against him.
Davis plans an appeal.
