Summertime means night fishing for bass and it's going on everywhere. Lots of folks out for the holiday fourth of July weekend. Mountain streams have warmed up a bit. Look for those shady deeper runs, and fish the summertime yellow sallies yellow caddis flies prince nymphs and hare's ear nymphs. Tailwater fishing is pretty good. Wade fishermen can negotiate the South Holston and Watauga Rivers until around noon when TVA kicks on the generators. Then it's the boater fishermen's turn. I got out in the upper end of the South Holston earlier this week and caught trout on black midges and enjoyed a sulfur hatch as well. I combined the two by tying a black midge dropper, and used the sulfur as the strike indicator. There is a lot of daytime boat traffic on the lakes so most bass fishermen are night fishing. South Holston is doing pretty well after dark on small root beer and brown and orange pig and jigs. Night time on Watauga, it's black and blue and root beer pig and jigs. Boone Lake's hot early morning top water bite has cooled off quite a bit. Start your night trip on Boone by cashing in on the evening flipping jig Bite. After dark, it's the root beer pig and jig and dark colored spinner baits. Night fishing in Cherokee has really turned on with three eighths to half ounce brown and orange pig and jigs and tequila sunrise plastic worms. It's a typical summer night bite on Douglas Lake. Cherry seed and other red color plastic worms and the night time spinner baits. Lots of white bass are being caught on small top water lures. Fourth of July weekend means lots of people everywhere. Be patient and courteous.
