Saturday afternoon the Bristol Family YMCA held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Homer A. Jones, Jr. Fitness Center.
The state-of-the-art fitness center represents the most recent capital improvement project at the Bristol Y, which began making a series of improvements at its main facility on Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in 2004.
Over the past nine years, the Bristol Y has invested more than $3 million in capital improvements, renovations and new equipment.
The goal of the improvements and renovations are to provide the best fitness and health services the community.
"It's hard for us to reach out and give the community the best youth development and healthy lifestyles without the tools in the building. And that's what this renovation project is about," said Chris Ayres CEO of Bristol Family YMCA.
