White House welcomes Christmas tree from N.C. farm

The official White House Christmas tree is making its arrival straight from a prize-winning farm in the North Carolina mountains.

First lady Michelle Obama welcomed the tree and its growers from Peak Farms in Ashe County early Friday morning. Farm owners Rusty and Beau Estes are the 2012 grand champion winners of the National Christmas Tree Association, which provides the White House Christmas tree each year.

This year's official tree is a 19-foot Fraser fir grown near Jefferson that was selected in early October and harvested in November.

It will be displayed through the holiday season in the Blue Room of the White House.

The 2008 White House Christmas tree also came from Ashe County.
