Negotiations between Wellmont health systems and United Healthcare insurance have hit a wall.
Wellmont officials tell us that as of June 1st, Wellmont health systems will no longer be an in network provider for United Healthcare members.
People with United Healthcare insurance will have to pay more money for care at a Wellmont facility if they can't get an out of network authorization.
Wellmont says United Healthcare is trying to profit from new healthcare laws."I think that United Healthcare believes that because of all that's going on in the market place under the term of healthcare reform, that they should profit more significantly from healthcare reform than any other payer." said Alice Pope of Wellmont.
We reached out to United Healthcare and they referred us to their previous statement... which in part says... quote "Wellmont appears to believe they should pocket higher pay without showing that they're delivering better results for their patients. This is simply unfair for Tri-cities residents. We appreciate how this can be disruptive for people, so we are committed to doing everything we can to reach an agreement that enables us to offer affordable, quality health care products to our members."
