Be careful if you are heading out into slick and slushy elements Wednesday night.

We checked with hospitals around the region, and they tell us they've seen a rise in injuries relating to winter weather.

Wellmont Health System tells us during this snowy weather, they've seen about five to seven weather-related injuries per day.

Whitney Hanor is a physician's assistant student at a Wellmont facility. "We've seen some kids with minor scrapes and abrasions from sledding, and that type of thing," she said. "It's more the falling-type injuries usually with slightly older folks, our elderly populations. We got some contusions to downright fractures."

Mountain States Health Alliance's Teresa Hicks tells us they've also seen a spike in weather-related injuries over the past month.

We learned most of the injuries happen while people are heading to and leaving for school and work.
