The Tennessee Association of Broadcasters has selected WCYB-TV Vice President and General Manager Jack Dempsey as the 40th recipient of their Distinguished Service Award.

Mr. Dempsey has left an indelible mark on the broadcasting industry in a career that has spanned five decades. Born in Ashland, Kentucky, he attended the University of Kentucky and East Tennessee State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. He got his start in broadcasting in January 1973 at WAXU-AM in Georgetown, Kentucky. That stint was soon followed by positions at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky and WOWK-TV in Huntington, West Virginia.

He then settled into a distinguished 27-year tenure at WJHL-TV in Johnson City, Tennessee – 23 years of which as General Manager. In his current role at WCYB-TV, he also maintains oversight of WEMT-TV FOX and CW-4 on WCYB’s second digital channel.

Mr. Dempsey is an active contributor of his time and expertise to the broadcasting profession. He is the current president of the Virginia Association of Broadcasters and is a past-president of the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters. He also served nine years on the CBS Affiliate Advisory Board.

He is also a recognized pillar of his community - most notably as the current president of the Rotary Club in Bristol and as a board member of the United Way in Bristol, Tennessee.

He is an avid golfer and an even more avid family man. He is married to Diane Bishop, the loving father of five children and the generous grandfather of ten. And ever true to his pioneering broadcast spirit, he and his wife profess to have the 'bandwidth' to accommodate even more grandkids.
