The Washington County, Tennessee Sheriffs Office is asking for your help after a copper theft from a cell phone tower.
Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal says reports were filed by Crown Castle, Verizon, and AT&T after a copper theft at a cell tower site in the Gray community.
Graybeal says they have security video and pictures of what appears to be a white SUV going into the site then leaving a few minutes later.
Graybeal says the suspects removed a large amount of copper cable used to ground the towers. Bars used to attach the ground cable to the towers were also removed.
Investigators say this is considered a serious crime. "By the time they replace these copper wires and replace the copper ground bars and the labor it takes to repair all of that it's definitely going to be over $500 which would make it a felony crime," adds Washington County Investigator Herman Hagie.
Graybeal says after further investigation it was confirmed that similar thefts happened in Bluff City and Piney Flats. Investigators believe that the incidents are connected due to the similarities.
