Wise County school board is considering a consolidation at the elementary school level with Appalachia Elementary School and Powell Valley Primary and Middle
School officials said due to increasing budget concerns and decreasing enrollment, the school system is looking for funding options and potential savings. The board discussed the possibility of consolidating the schools at a budget workshop on Wednesday, April 19.
Appalachia Elementary serves students in Pre-K through 8th grade. Powell Valley Primary serves Pre-K through 4, Powell Valley Middle is 5 through 8.
Superintendent Greg Mullins will present the proposed plan of consolidation at a meeting on Tuesday, April 25 at 6 p.m. There will be no opportunity for public comment at that meeting.
Public comment on the proposed consolidation and the 2017-2018 budget year will be held on May 22 at 6 p.m.
