A Norton, Virginia woman who admitted last year to sexually molesting two children in her care while babysitting decades ago received prison time at her sentencing hearing on Thursday.
Rhonda Jean Cooke, 60, confessed to State Police and Wise County investigators of the crimes that involved two young children nearly 25 years ago who later came forward as adults and identified Cooke as the suspect.
The case was opened after "suspicious recordings" were found inside the home that Cooke once lived in, the report said. She was originally charged with 107 felonies including 57 counts of sodomy.
She will serve a total of four years in prison followed by 16 years of supervised probation. Cooke must register as a sex offender after her release.
Wise County Commonwealth's Attorney Chuck Slemp noted that there is not a statute of limitations in the state of Virginia on felony crimes.
