Washington County businesses saluted for success

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. - For 80 years, the Johnson City Bedding Company hasn't laid down on the job. One of the longest running businesses in Washington County, the Economic Development Council honored them with a milestone achievement award.

"A lot of our employees have been with us 30 and 40 years," company president Bob Parker said. "We have husbands and wives working for us."

Employees who've made a lot of sacrifices over the years. "It's a lot of hours, for one thing," Parker said. "Some weekend work for other things, some evening work."

Another milestone award winner: Industrial Electronic Services. Now in its 25th year of making electronic components, company director Tim Coleman says the key to staying plugged in has been flexibility with changing technology. "I.E.S. will build you one piece to many pieces," Coleman said. "Taking on difficult jobs that no one else want."

Washington County Mayor Dan Eldridge tells us companies like these are the backbone of the local economy, and two more reasons why the county's job growth is trending upward. "Maybe it's not as quick as we'd like to see it," Eldridge said. "But, things are steadily improving. This is a very attractive place to do business for a lot of reasons."
