Full-time ambulatory service returned Friday afternoon to the town of Glade Spring following the awarding of a contract to C-Trans Ambulance Service by Washington County officials.
The Department of Emergency Management released a statement announcing the C-Trans agreement. The service now has an ambulance housed at the Glade Spring Fire Department for 24-hour assistance, the report said.
The move comes after the Glade Spring Volunteer Life Saving Crew was stripped of its service area due to regulatory concerns over advanced life support, the county announced earlier this week. The county then called for sealed bids from ambulance companies. The deadline for bids was noon Friday.
Sheriff Fred Newman said Thursday an investigation had been launched into the former Glade Spring operations after narcotics that had been carried on ambulances for medical use were found missing.
