WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. - A fire tore through two barns and destroyed hundreds of bales of hay on a sixth-generation farm in Gray, Tennessee.
The 911 call came in just after midnight Friday about a barn fire off Pickens Bridge Road. Farmer Larry Crouch says there was no electricity and no equipment inside the barn, simply 350 bales of hay.
The fire is devastating news for the family since it takes months during the summer to stock enough supplies to feed cattle throughout the winter. "The next step would be to find feed for the cattle for the rest of the winter. Hopefully it will be a mild winter and grass will come early in spring," said family owner Linda Crouch-McCready.
The family says they do have insurance but it's costly and hard to afford rebuilding. There is still no word yet on the cause of the fire.
