Big crowd hits the street for Jonesborough Fourth of July parade

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - Enjoying the sweet summertime at the Jonesborough Days Fourth of July parade. "We come every year," said parade watcher Edith Street. "We love it."

Enjoying sweet freedoms like free refreshment. "We're a local church and we usually hand out water every year at this parade," said Nathan Lowe of Eden United Methodist Church. "It's just a mission that we do every year and try to help serve our community."
The sweet freedom of watching a free parade and seeing a congressman and county mayor on tractors, even a stuffed chicken cooked up by the Jonesborough Farmer's Market.

Celebrating the freedom to love a parade. "But, more importantly, celebrate what freedom stands for," said parade watcher Emma Ketron.

According to these parade goers, freedom was bought with a price. "I'm a proud American. I was glad to do my duty for my country," said veteran David Ketron.

So perhaps the sweetest summertime freedom enjoyed at this parade was the freedom to applaud the World War II veterans who were responsible for it.

Jonesborough Days winds up with the annual fireworks show Saturday night at 10:00.
