A Pulaski, Virginia man is dead after reportedly shooting himself inside his residence following a domestic disturbance call late Sunday, State Police reported Monday.
A warrant had been obtained for the arrest of James Burton, 48, and deputies with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office and personnel with the Pulaski Police Department had pulled onto his property when the VSP said Burton came out of the home and opened fire on the officers.
Negotiators tried to make contact with Burton for several hours but were unsuccessful. A single gunshot was then heard coming from inside the home, the report said.
A State Police robot unit was sent in and found Burton's body. The shooting is still under investigation and an autopsy was ordered.
