Two-year-old girl killed in Marion fire

MARION, Va. - UPDATE 2:27 p.m.: Authorities have confirmed the fatality in the fire was a two-year-old girl.

The girl's mother was taken to the Johnson City Medical Center. There is no update on her condition at this time.


UPDATE 12:39 p.m.: 25 people in eight apartments were displaced by the fire. Smyth County Emergency Management and the Red Cross are helping.

UPDATE 11:59 a.m.: State police are investigating the fire.

They have confirmed one fatality and two injuries -- one person had a possible leg injury, and the other had possible burns. They have not released any information about the fatality yet.

We're told as many as eight apartments are involved in the fire.

We have a crew on the scene and will bring you more details as they are available.


Three fire departments are battling a blaze at an apartment complex in Marion, Virginia.

Fire officials tell us it's at the Country Club Crossings on Marion Manor Drive.

They say the call came in around 11:00 Tuesday morning.

They tell us Marion Fire Department as well as Chilhowie and Adwolfe Fire Departments are on the scene working to get it under control.
