PENNINGTON GAP, Va. - A veteran internist has joined Wellmont Medical Associates, bringing with him 40 years of experience and a passion for treating residents of Lee County.
Dr. Patrick Molony is now partnering with Dr. Sidney Gilbert and Dr. Monika Karakattu at the Wellmont Medical Associates office inside Lee Regional Medical Center. Dr. Molony and Dr. Gilbert will also see patients at Dr. Molony's longtime office, 32576 Wilderness Road in Jonesville.
"I'm pleased to join such a reputable organization as Wellmont Medical Associates and look forward to working with such talented physicians and caregivers," Dr. Molony said. "After practicing medicine in Lee County for 25 years, the community has become like family to me, and I'm excited I can continue to provide them with superior care in two locations."
Elaine Hamilton, a nurse practitioner who has worked with Dr. Molony, is also joining Wellmont Medical Associates, seeing patients in the Jonesville office. She brings more than 50 years of medical experience in the region to the practice.
Fred Pelle, Lee Regional's interim president, said Dr. Molony and Hamilton are valuable additions to Wellmont Medical Associates.
"Dr. Molony is a fixture in Lee County, and residents have trusted him for years with their health care and respected his expertise," Pelle said. Primary care is one of the many services that has been available and will continue to be offered at Lee Regional. The hospital will continue to be the focus of Wellmont Health System's medical services in Lee County.
Created in 2012, Wellmont Medical Associates is a physician-led, professionally managed organization that better enables physicians to set the direction for patient care.
Dr. Molony earned his medical degree at National University of Ireland and finished a residency and internship at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. He completed pulmonary fellowships at the University of Maryland and at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, Calif.
Hamilton received a diploma in nursing from Mobile General Hospital School of Nursing and bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from East Tennessee State University. She has practiced with Dr. Molony for 13 years.
