Virginia is getting a bonus from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for its performance using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Governor Terry McAuliffe says the Virginia Department of Social Services is getting $1.7 million in additional assistance.

USDA awards performance bonuses to the eight states each year.

Virginia was recognized for having the lowest payment error rate in the country.

Last fiscal year, Virginia issued $1.4 billion in SNAP benefits.
