BRISTOL, VA -

Some Republican lawmakers are asking tough questions which it comes to supporting the coal industry in Virginia.

Senator Bill Carrico and Delegates Terry Kilgore and Israel O'Quinn are criticizing Democrat candidate Terry McAuliffe's stance on coal. They claim the democrat went on record four years ago saying that he never wanted another coal plant to be built.

"I think it would be great if we had two candidates for governor who were a hundred percent pro coal," said O'Quinn. "That would be fantastic. We don't. Until we hear something pretty definitely otherwise, we only going to have one candidate who is strongly pro-coal."

News 5 contacted McAuliffe's headquarters for a response but were not given a direct answer to the question.

Ken Cuccinelli is the Republican candidate for governor.
