A Lynchburg construction company is facing more than $17,000 in fines for violating federal laws meant to protect waterways.
The Environmental Protection Agency says English Construction Company has agreed to pay the fine and to prepare and implement oil spill prevention plans to settle violations at a Pittsylvania County facility.
During a compliance inspection at the Hurt facility, EPA inspectors found that the company failed to prepare a spill prevention plan, failed to conduct required testing and visual inspections of oil storage containers and committed other violations.
The prevention plans are required under the Clean Water Act for facilities that store more than 1,320 gallons of oil.
The agency says the penalty takes into account the company's efforts to resolve the violations and that English now is compliant.
