The Virginia Coal and Energy Alliance is coming together to discuss ways to deal with issues facing coal companies.
Greg Kohn is with the National Mining Association, Count on Coal. He tells us the two day meeting in Kingsport has been successful so far.
He says the conference allows different groups to put their heads together to find the best way to deal with issues they are facing, like EPA regulations.
Kohn says the coal industry has done a tremendous job in the last 20 years cleaning up the industry and believes it's on the right track. "The regulations that the EPA are imposing are ones that we are unable in the industry to obtain. They are just out of reach. Primarily, they are out of reach from a cost standpoint," he said.
Kohn hopes conferences like this and grass roots campaigns will help get the public informed and get them to stand up for coal.
