ABINGDON, Va. -

Local Vietnam veterans were honored at a special event today.

It took place this afternoon in Abingdon at the Veterans Memorial Park.

It was to honor and recognize service members from Washington County, Virginia who lost their lives in Vietnam.

The names of the 16 fallen were read aloud and family members were presented with roses and replica dog tags.

"It gives you a good, warm feeling to know that there are people maybe not even connected with them that are still remembering those people and we certainly appreciate this," said J.C. Crigger. Crigger's son, Marine Cpl. Henry Crigger, was killed in Vietnam in 1967 when he was 20 years old.

Organizers of Tuesday's event also presented replica dog tags and a memorial poster to travel with people participating in the motorcycle event Run for the Wall.

Those items will be placed at The Wall in D.C. over the Memorial Day weekend.
