VHCC President coming home

ABINGDON, VA. - Vrginia Highlands Community College has a new president and he is from this area.  Dr. Gene Couch Jr. became the college's sixth president on July 1st.  

It is a return home for Couch, who grew up in Abingdon.

Couch leaves Alamance Community College in Graham, North Carolina.  Couch also worked at Southwestern Community College in Sylva, North Carolina. 
 Couch says he  is excited to lead the current 27-hundred students into the future.  
"I am a product of the community college."  said Couch.  "Hopefully that serves as a role model for our students so that you can stay near and go far."

Couch has met lots of people around campus and looks forward to learning about the programs the school has to offer.
