A national veterans group calling for peace at home and overseas is bringing its message to Asheville for its annual convention.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (http://avlne.ws/UqrWxY) Veterans for Peace is scheduled to open its convention on Wednesday at UNC Asheville. Its activities are open to the public.
Organization members on Tuesday joined Asheville Veterans for Peace in its weekly peace vigil at Vance Monument at Pack Square. Veterans for Peace members from the Raleigh area erected a 24-foot bell tower at Pack Square on Monday. The tower, created from recycled soda and beer cans, will remain at the square through Sunday.
Convention coordinator John Spitzberg of Asheville said the organization will bring attention to homeless veterans in Asheville by sharing a meal with them on Sunday.
