The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) advises motorists to be alert to the possibility of rapidly changing travel conditions during the afternoon commute and into the evening hours. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and yield to snow plows and emergency services vehicles and delay travel to allow conditions to improve when possible.

Crews are responding to affected areas and are on standby across the state. Crews will apply sand and salt to roadways throughout the evening to give drivers traction and to melt snow and ice.
