Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam will lead a state task force on mental health.

The task force is supposed to make recommendations on how to improve mental health and crisis response services.

Governor Terry Mcauliffe signed an executive order extending the task force first created by former Governor Bob McDonnell last year.

The task force was created after Senator Creigh Deeds' mentally ill son, Gus, attacked him then committed suicide after being release from custody because no psychiatric beds were available.
