Virginia lawmakers have voted to repeal a year-old tax on hybrid vehicles.

The House of Delegates and the Senate voted to scrap the $64 tax. Governor Terry McAuliffe has said he will sign the measure to repeal the tax enacted in 2013 as part of a comprehensive transportation funding package. Click here to read more about the tax.

Hybrid drivers had argued they should be rewarded, not penalized, for buying an energy-saving vehicle.

The move will reduce anticipated state revenue by about $6.9 million next year.
