BRISTOL, Tenn./Va. - UPDATE 6:15 a.m.: Bristol, Virginia police released the names of the two arrested in connection with the shootout and chase early Wednesday morning.
Police tell News 5, 22-year-old Jonathan Cody Vinson and a 17-year-old face charges after police say they led them on a chase from Highland Avenue, in Bristol, Virginia, to East Cedar Street in Bristol, Tennessee.
During the chase, police tell us the 17-year-old passenger started shooting at the officer.
Once Vinson hit a fire hydrant, police say both suspects got out of the vehicle and ran. We're told, an officer fired more shots before Vinson surrendered. The juvenile was arrested in a nearby alley.
No one was hurt in the shootings.
Both suspects are being held in Bristol, Tennessee, awaiting extradition. The investigation continues Wednesday morning.
UPDATE 5:40 p.m.: Police have two suspects in custody following a shootout and chase through Bristol Tuesday afternoon.
It all started with a traffic stop in Bristol, Virginia around 2:30; the chase crossed the state line into Bristol, Tennessee.
Bristol, Tennessee police Major Sean Carrigan tells us an undercover narcotics officer stopped a wanted suspect. When the driver recognized the officer, he sped away with a passenger inside.
The chase ended on the Tennessee side of Bristol near King University when the suspect hit the a fire hydrant.
Bristol, Tennessee Police caught the driver and the passenger.
Major Carrigan says one of suspects and an officer exchanged gun fire, but no one was hurt. "As [police] were pursuing him, someone inside of the vehicle started shooting at the officer. It appears that the officer's vehicle has been struck. Investigators are investigating that right now," he said.
King University, along with Holston View and Fairmount elementary schools, were placed on lockdown until officers made the arrests.
The Bristol, Tennessee and Bristol, Virginia police departments were still investigating as of Tuesday evening. So far they have not released the names of the suspects or why they were being pulled over.
UPDATE 3:20 p.m.: Bristol, Tennessee police investigators have released more information about this incident.
Authorities say Bristol, Virginia Police pulled over a vehicle during a routine stop. Two suspects in the car jumped out and fled. One of the suspects fired several shots at police officers.
Both suspects were later arrested near King University.
Police say more shots were fired before the arrests.

Bristol, Tenn. City Schools tell us Holston View and Fairmount elementary schools were briefly put on lockdown, but are both now operating normally.
