A bicycle and pedestrian trail linking Johnson City and Elizabethton now has its own song.
The Tweetsie Trail is being built on the abandoned ET&WNC rail line, formerly travelled by steam locomotives. The trains got the nickname "tweetsie" from local residents because of their shrill whistles.
The Tweetsie Trail is on track to open on Labor Day weekend.
The song will be used as a marketing tool for the Tweetsie Trail task force to bring in new donations to help complete the trail. It also is meant to inform the public about the six-mile trail's history.
The new song is called "The Tweetsie We Rode" and is available on the website of musician Andy Curtis. Click here, then click on "Current Projects" to listen to it.
