JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -

Hold your horses on the Tweetsie Trail--as Johnson City's public works director makes a plea for patience.

Last week, the Tweetsie Trail Task Force approved the suggestion of banning horses from the ten mile hiking and biking trail for now.

According to Public Works Director Phil Pindzola, a couple of horses were on the trail very early after the small gravel surface was put down causing divots and damage.

So, Pindzola is asking for the horse riding public's patience.

He says they'll look at horse traffic later if the surface stiffens enough.

Pindzola said, "We knew that over time it would harden, and whether or not it will harden enough to allow horses on the facility is yet to be determined"

Pindzola tells us construction of the Tweetsie Trail is still on schedule for opening day August 30th.
